The purpose of this course is to instruct health care professionals on the correct method of performing capillary puncture and venipuncture. In addition, the student will be able to utilize and explain the purpose of the various equipment, including the safety equipment. The student will also be familiar in the use of the correct terminology regarding capillary puncture, venipuncture, safety, and vacutainer blood collection. Upon successful completion of the program, which includes 48 classroom hours and a minimum of 100 clinical hours, the student will be eligible to take the National Phlebotomy Certification Examination if desired. Tuition does not include National Examination fee.
Students must provide personal medical coverage and must be 18 years of age or older to participate. You will receive a packet 6-8 weeks prior to the start of the course via email containing forms necessary to complete the clinical prerequisites, including those explaining specific lab work, clearances, and immunizations. Any costs incurred for the completion of these clinical prerequisites will be the financial responsibility of the student. Due to the length of the program, attendance at ALL sessions is mandatory. Failure to meet the attendance requirements will directly result in immediate removal from the program without refund.
Class size is limited and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. No seats will be held without payment in full.
Textbooks are required for the first day of class and are NOT included in the tuition. Textbooks can be purchased at the college’s bookstore by calling (724) 287-8711 ext. 8230. Required Text is Phlebotomy Essentials 6th Edition.
To be eligible for a refund, students must request the refund at least 30 days prior to the start of the class. No refunds will be issued after this time.

- Health Insurance Card or signed insurance waiver (obtained by calling the EMS office)
Requirements must be completed and turned in prior to the 4th week of class
- Current Physical with associated lab work
- Drug screen
- PSP Criminal History Background check (must be dated within 12 months of clinical end date)
- Act 33/34 Clearances (Child Abuse) (must be dated within 12 months of clinical end date)
- FBI Clearance (must be dated within 12 months of clinical end date)
