Care for Residents with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities

This training provides a basic understanding of what it means when a person has a diagnosis of intellectual or developmental disabilities. Participants will understand how the diagnosis is determined and the levels of intellectual or developmental disabilities. Self-determination and choice will be discussed so that those with intellectual or developmental disabilities are afforded these opportunities. Participants will receive information on interpreting and addressing challenging behaviors in accordance with the Office of Development Programs. Participants will be provided with basic knowledge on understanding appropriate sexual behavior and addressing this issue with residents diagnosed with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Participants will understand the conflict resolution policy for the Office of Development Programs. This training is for personal care home administrators to provide them with exposure to working with residents who have a diagnosis of Intellectual or developmental disabilities.
This is a required course within the 100 hour Personal Care Home Administrator training program. This course can be taken individually by licensed administrators required to attend 24 hours of yearly job training.
