Introduction to Industrial Electrical Maintenance: Motors and Controls

The subject matter of this training builds upon basic introductory electrical concepts presented in part 1 of this course series of the same title.  It is recommended that students have either previously completed part 1 of this series or have some working knowledge of basic AC/DC circuit theory. Note that there will be a brief review at the beginning.  This course encompasses the following general areas:
 
  • The workings of the most common types of AC and DC electric motors, typically found in industrial, processing, and commercial types of environments.
  • Motor control schemes for starting, stopping, reversing, sequencing, inter-locking and controlling speed.
  • Troubleshooting techniques for motors and their power and control systems.
  • Test procedures for motors and electrical control devices.
  • Use of schematic drawings to understand and troubleshoot motors and control systems.
  • Typical industrial electrical test instrument usage.
  • An emphasis on electrical safety throughout the course.
